Quran Karriem

Quran is a developer and entrepreneur primarily interested in the effects digital media technologies have on approaches to the arts and education.

Since 2008, he has worked as an integral part of the leadership team at Urban Planet Mobile, an award-winning social enterprise that develops, licenses, optimizes and distributes educational products and solutions for delivery to mobile phones in developing communities across the globe. His current responsibities include conception, design, and production management of audio, video and interactive mobile products, and he has overseen product localization efforts for Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Haiti, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru and the Dominican Republic. The company's innovative mobile education products and business model have been recognized by Gartner Research, the Gates Foundation, the GSMA Association and Frost & Sullivan.

Quran's previous experiences include a three year stint as a scoring supervisor for mathematics and writing assessments with Pearson Education and several engagements as a tutor and mentor in music theory and audio post-production.

In November 2010, he co-founded Small Bird Big Egg, LLC, a social gaming company. Their first release, "Exquisite Corpse Drawing Game," launched in April 2011. Users of the application created over 500 collaborative drawings within the first 60 days of availability.

Quran is a trombonist with a love of digital signal processing. He holds a Bachelor of Music (composition, electronic music) from the University of Georgia, a Master of Fine Arts (sound design for interactivity) from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and plans to pursue research in human-computer interaction over the course of the next several years.
