Rasna Jassal
Student in Guelph, Ontario, Canada
Hi, my name is Rasna! I’m an undergraduate student currently in my third year of the Biological Science major, at the University of Guelph. I was born in Guelph, ON and graduated from Centennial CVI in 2016. I value the importance of education and enjoy volunteering. I like cooking when I am free and listening to music is one of my favourite hobbies. Also, I take interest in travelling and would like to explore more of the world someday. Human physiology is the field of science that interests me the most because I like to learn about the human body, its organisms, and how they function. Someone in the science world who has inspired me is Donna Strickland, from Guelph, who just recently was the third woman ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Strickland’s accomplishment is a fantastic example of how hard work leads to great success; one does not have to be a Harvard or Oxford University graduate to achieve what she did. My current career goal is to attend a graduate school to become an audiologist, as I have really enjoyed the healthcare field growing up and like to help others. I strongly believe that this area suits my personality and interests best, which is why I chose the science pathway. An interesting fact most people may not know about me is that I am multilingual. I can speak 4 languages, which are English, French, Punjabi, and Hindi. I studied French for 8 years, beginning in fourth grade, up until the end of secondary school. During my university years, I have worked retail jobs at Sears Canada and most recently, Gymboree, until I decided to dedicate my time along with school, to volunteering at the Guelph General Hospital. This way, I hope to achieve my goal of making a positive difference in the community by helping others, while having a great experience. Finally, I recently joined the Sikh Students Association club this past fall semester and am looking forward to discovering new opportunities to join more clubs that the University of Guelph has to offer.
