R. Scott Peden

Hey everyone! I'm R. Scott Peden, but I go by Scott. I have been an attorney and businessman in Waco for 35 years. I have a B.A. in Communications from Trinity University and a J.D. from Baylor Law School.

My current legal practice focuses on issues most commonly faced by small businesses such as debt collection, contract drafting, copyright and trademarks, buying and selling businesses, business litigation, evictions and other business issues. As an attorney, my goal is not just to achieve the best results for my clients, but to make certain they have an excellent client experience as well.

I have also had the honor of helping students learn more about business from a real world perspective by having taught Principles of Business, Business Law and Court Systems and Practices at Midway High School.

I got into teaching because I realized I have a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge which would really benefit a lot of high school students and give them a head start in the business world. Most of my students would agree that my class has been very helpful because the information is extremely practical. In fact, I often hear from former students who are now in college thanking me for making their business and law courses so much easier to understand. In addition to business history, economics, insurance, personal income taxes, financial ratios and analysis, marketing, labor unions and entrepreneurship, I covered soft skills like interpersonal communications, business etiquette, how to tie a necktie, business etiquette and a host of other practical skills used every day in the business world. However, my law practice has grown to the point that I could not continue to both teach and practice law, so I have had to step back from teaching after 5 years.

I have also been a professional musician for over 40 years and currently play keyboards for the Texas Heatwave Band (primarily weddings and events). You may also see me, from time to time, either on stage or designing sound for the Waco Civic Theatre.
