Raanan Katz
Real Estate, Co-owner of the Miami Heat, and Philanthropist in Miami, Florida
The commitment of Raanan Katz and RK Centers to the development of Sunny Isles Beach resulted in the city naming one of its streets Raanan Katz Boulevard. In addition to Sunny Isles Beach and North Miami properties, additional RK Centers developments include those in Fort Lauderdale, Coral Gables, and Hallandale. The development effort of Mr. Katz’s company has prompted numerous awards in both South Florida and New England.
RK Centers is a real estate development company focused on open-air shopping centers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Florida, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Founded as RK Associates in the 1970s, the company changed its name in January 2012 to better reflect its commercial focus.
RK Centers was founded by Raanan Katz, a former player with the Israeli National Basketball Team and the U.S. All-Stars. After retiring from basketball, Mr. Katz purchased a small apartment complex. He went on to grow his holdings to include multiple apartment units in the greater Boston area. RK Centers switched its focus from residential to commercial properties in the 1980s, after acquiring a block of stores on Miami Beach. In addition to his work in the real estate industry, Mr. Katz maintained his passion for basketball and became an initial partner in the expansion of the Miami Heat franchise in 1986.
Raanan Katz came to the United States in 1962 with the dream of becoming a professional basketball player in the US. Beforehand, Mr. Katz developed a reputation for being a great outside shooter for the Isreali National Team. It wasn't before Mr. Katz achieved his dream. Mr. Katz played against the Harlem Globetrotters as a member of the Sea Gulls for a year. As mentioned above, It is with the money that he earned throughout his basketball career that Mr. Katz was able to buy his first apartment building and enter the world of real estate.
In real estate, Mr. Katz is known for continually investing his own personal funds to the beautification of his properties. For Mr. Katz, real estate is about more than managing property, it's about helping people find a place to call home. It is a point of pride with Mr. Katz that he checks in with his tenants and lets them know that their livelihood matters to him - a task that has become more difficult as the success of RK centers has grown.
