Raceway Golf
Club in Thompson, Connecticut
The Raceway Golf Club was designed and built by John Hoenig and his son Donald J. Hoenig, PGA in the mid-1940’s with the original nine holes opening in 1947. The first nine holes were built on the existing Hoenig family dairy farm property. The original 1700’s family farmhouse is still located directly adjacent to the 16th green. During the early 1960’s the second nine holes were constructed offering the current layout and configuration that remains today despite many green, tee, sand trap, fairway renovations and the addition of irrigation. The last remaining green from the original 1940’s construction – built in true New England “push up” style – is #16.
