An experienced biologist and medical researcher, Rachael Deis primarily focused on disease pathology as an undergraduate at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While completing her bachelor of science, she served two tenures as a research assistant. One of these was with the Lankenau Medical Center, and the other with a Drexel sociology professor who was studying the effects of social capital and stigma on specific health factors among African immigrants in greater Philadelphia. Rachael Deis’ work with Lankenau resulted in the co-authorship of two published articles, “Zinc Reduces Epithelial Barrier Compromise Induced by Human Seminal Plasma,” and “Improvement of Human-Oral-Epithelial-Barrier Function and of Tight Junctions by Micronutrients.”

In addition to her scientific work, Rachael Deis is a dedicated Judaic studies scholar who won a 2017 Josephine and Julius Cohen Award in the field. She is presently studying in Jerusalem, Israel, where she is developing her command of the Hebrew language. After completing her studies at Hadassah College, she plans to apply for medical school in Israel.
