My interest in getting a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies wasn’t always as black-and-white to me as some of my other friends. I have always been interested in photography, videos, social media and events. Being able to have my favorite interests be under one degree has allowed me to venture more deeply into my hobbies. I have a passion of being a part of a team that creatively works together to bring something incredible. Specifically, it’s the entertainment industry I find myself diving into. There is so much excitement, that’s unparalleled to working in any other industry for me. Waking up every day is totally different from the day before it. That’s how I knew I wanted to work in this industry!

I had the opportunity to have a part-time job as a marketing and promotion’s assistant for a local country radio station where I got a lot of first hand experience in advertising and events. I was able to see event managers in action and I was able to pick up some great lessons in managing an event while promoting a brand and fan interaction. Some of the event managers were great enough to let us pitch in some of our ideas and I was able to gain great teamwork attributes that can be helpful in my future career. Communication is essential in both advertising, marketing and managing an event. During that working experience, I was able to gain insights on how to improve my communication skills. I am great with people and I can adapt to any kind of situation. During my free time, I enjoy taking photos and creating a personal portfolio which helps me improve my HTML and web design skills. I also enjoy browsing through my social media and blogs to keep me updated for the current trends in the entertainment business. This helps me look at patterns on how people react in certain events, celebrities and fashion. I have kept in touch with most of my previous employers as I have consecutively volunteered every year since I got my first internship at a non-profit. Doing so not only improves my communication skills, it helps sharpen my networking skills as I get to see the same people annually and build a stronger connection.

I am confident that I can develop my passion, skills and personality into a career that benefits a company as much as challenges me. So far I have enjoyed myself in my studies and hopefully have developed some of the skills and qualities for success in degree-level communications, media and event studies.
