RACHAEL SHERWOOD
Beaver Bank
I arrived in Nova Scotia in 2001 with a view of leaving behind the demands of the corporate world and focusing on a calmer living experience. Although proud of my British roots, this is where I have found my home.
Years of working in a social services environment dealing with Children's Services and numerous spin off projects regarding legislation and government agencies, provided me with a unique insight into how children are hugely affected by the environment they are raised in.
Initially I chose to be a stay-at-home parent but as the Elementary School years were reaching an end, I knew it was time to consolidate my experiences.
My day care opened for children aged 10 months to 5 years in 2008 and I have loved every minute of it.
I have been very honoured to be a small influence shaping the children in my care. I've been very fortunate to have become part of some wonderful families and in turn, they have become part of mine.
In order to offer the best possible service to my clients, I wanted to ensure that I offered everything that I would hope for as a parent seeking a carer for my own children. Police checks, insurance, Infant CRP and First Aid were important as is a well maintained, clean, loving, fun and friendly environment.
It was also important to me, to establish clear and open communication with all who come into the day care. And I believe that has been achieved from the very beginning.
My goal is to provide a safe and happy place for children where they can learn and grow physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially at their own pace.
In my spare time I am a photographer. A hobby which quickly became a passion and which has provided a wonderful excuse to explore this scenic province, camera in hand. Initially I stuck to a subject I know - people - but more recently I have become engrossed in the search for those hidden gems of rural ruins. Homes and vehicles left behind and forgotten by their owners.
