Rachana Prasad

Rachana Prasad is a senior (12th grade student) studying at Mallya Aditi International School, Bangalore, India.

Rachana has been serving on the Student Council at Mallya Aditi International School for the last two years, and is an organizing committee member of the TEDx program, which is dedicated to spreading promising ideas from all over the world. She is an active member of the Model UN club and was selected from a small group of students to represent India at the 7th Annual Session of the Model United Nations in Singapore in 2011.

She participated in the Global Future Physician Seminar organized by the University of Minnesota, in Mysore, India, in 2012. She most recently was chosen to attend a Summer Program at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, USA.

She has been studying Bharatanatyam since the age of 6. She was trained by Kalashri Asha Gopal in the USA for seven years, and for the last three years since her move to India, has been continuing training under Kalashri Veena Murthy Vijay. She and her sister completed their Bhararanatyam Arangetram in September, 2013.

She has diverse interests ranging from the Sciences to Economics, Business Studies and Writing. Her short stories have been published in local newspapers in the US. She also reads, writes and speaks Spanish fluently. She has learned Carnatic Classical Music, was on the Piano National Roll, and enjoys painting.

Rachana volunteers at a government school in Bangalore, teaching children about computers and organizes events to raise money for local charities like the Nightingales Medical Trust and HelpAge India.

Currently, Rachana is researching the psychosocial effects that epilepsy has on children and their families. She hopes to one day have a career that allows her to explore her diverse interests in health, technology, and business.
