Rachel Lengyell
Ontario Educator, Subject Matter Expert, and Professional Studies Instructor in York Region
My name is Rachel Lengyell (Click here to learn how to pronounce my name!) and I have been a public secondary school educator with the York Region District School Board since 2011.
I completed my Honours Specialization in English Language and Literature with a second teachable in History at Western University (formally The University of Western Ontario) in '09 and my B.Ed. at The University of Windsor in '10. I earned additional qualifications to enhance my practice: English Specialist; Junior/Intermediate and Intermediate/Senior qualifications; ESL part 1, 2 and Specialist; PQP pt 1 and pt 2.
Teaching in the GTA has been the most enriching experience. I've taught all grades, all pathways, in all CECs of this board. I have contributed to many regional pilot projects and initiatives, and facilitated many professional learning workshops and conferences on various topics in education. I have been the Subject Head of English at 3 different schools with the YRDSB and have held a regional consulting position focusing on Equity, Inclusion, Anti-Oppression, Anti-Racism and Indigenous Pedagogies. I have also been a summer school Principal. I contribute to the wonderful field of education as a Continuing Teacher Education Instructor for Queen's University and as a Subject Matter Expert with TVO.
To me, these credentials are mere labels: what goes on in my classroom, in spaces where I facilitate professional learning, and in my effervescent office/work/learning spaces, are what matter most, alongside the joys and beauty of every day life with my educator spouse and sassy chihuahua!
