Rachel Jessie Wilson

Pennsylvania

Hello! My name is Rachel Wilson. I was always the girl who was creative and theatrical. My parents tell me that when I was a baby, I tried to sing simple songs before I could really talk. Throughout my childhood I continued to sing and dance until theatre entered my life in middle school. Since then, I have always loved being in theatre in some way and decided to go to college for it. I got interested in theatre because I have always wanted to see life from every perspective and hope to learn as much as I can. I like to try to make theatre that is funny and makes people think. This is the kind of theatre that I enjoy most and that I feel can have a good impact.

From my theatre classes, I have learned skills that will help me be a better theatre artist and leader in the future. I have learned how to be as specific as possible with details such as central conflict and how to work with others to guide them to my vision without being dictatorial. I like theatre because it gives me a chance to see issues as a whole instead of focusing on one aspect, such as a specific problem.

In the future, I see myself still doing theatre in some capacity. It may not be acting, but I have the experience now to say that I can direct or design in the future if that is where my life leads me. I think I will always love doing theatre, whether acting, directing, or designing. It gives me a sense of meaning and creativity that I do not get from many other parts of my daily life. I think theatre is a beautiful thing and hope to make a career with it all through my life. I do not think I will ever give up trying to make a career of what has become a big part of my life. My passion for theatre will never change and I hope it will continue to grow through the years.
