Rachel Glazener’s journey into the world of chemistry began in high school at Greenville Senior High School, where her passion was sparked in Dr. Whisenhunt’s AP Chemistry class. This early interest grew into a lifelong dedication to the sciences.
She earned her BS from Winthrop University, where she explored a multidisciplinary curriculum encompassing biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and research. During her undergraduate studies, she developed a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of scientific fields but ultimately identified as a chemist.
Continuing her education at the University of Tennessee, Rachel completed her MS in organic chemistry with a focus on pharmaceutical drug design and biological assays. Her expertise includes analyzing complex compounds using advanced analytical instrumentation, and she remains passionate about the potential of chemistry to improve lives through innovation.
Currently, Rachel teaches organic chemistry at a community college in Knoxville, TN. Known for her engaging and relatable teaching style, she leverages technology to create dynamic learning experiences. She is dedicated to mentoring students not only in mastering chemistry but also in exploring diverse career pathways in the sciences.
Rachel is an advocate for integrating technology into the classroom to foster inclusivity and interaction. Her latest project involves using iPads to create a virtual learning environment that transcends socio-economic barriers, enhances student engagement, and strengthens understanding and retention of course material.
Outside of the classroom, Rachel enjoys staying active through yoga and hiking. She is a proud "dog mom" to her beloved pups and an avid coffee and wine enthusiast.
