Rachel Kent
Hi I’m Rachel. I may not talk like a southern girl, but I definitely absorb myself in country music like one. CMA Fest two years in a row and counting encourages my cowboy boot obsession and love of the mecca of country music. Of all country artists, Hunter Hayes catches my eye at the moment, and I’m currently scheming how to get on his tour bus. Normally, I do not describe myself as the gutsy go-getter who can make such a dream into reality. After all, riding Summit Plummet at Disney’s Blizzard Beach in Orlando is the craziest feat I have attempted. That twelve-story, straight-down body slide scared me to the point of shaking, but I walked away from the experience with “my greatest accomplishment in life.” My joking and somewhat sarcastic humor comes not from my family or inborn nature, but instead, from watching Gilmore Girls. I live vicariously through that show, and I refuse to call it fiction. Unfortunately, to my disappointment, my life does not mirror that of Rory Gilmore. Instead of an interest in journalism like she, I find myself mentally geared towards politics. But, by no means am I that loudmouth wanting to advocate my point about abortion, immigration or the deficit at any given moment to any given audience. I have an opinion, but I also have a handle on my temper. Most times I am that composed girl, airing on the quiet side, but my vocal, spastic side easily comes out when I am with my closest friends. I lean on them in times of adversity, like now, with starting this new chapter of my life at UGA. In due time, however, I know I will come to look at this university as my new home and not as an intimidating challenge.
