A legal professional with more than two decades of experience, Judge Rachel Davidson currently sits on the Essex County Superior Court in Newark, New Jersey. She began her judicial career presiding over trials in the Superior Court's Family Division, beginning in 2000. Judge Rachel Davidson subsequently transferred to the Civil Division in 2003, where she spent six years, then went to work in the Criminal Division from 2009 to August 2011, when she once again took up duties in the Civil Division.
Prior to becoming a judge, Rachel Davidson practiced law with Hellring, Lindeman, Goldstein and Siegel as an Associate from 1988 to 1992 and as a Partner from 1993 to 2000. She focused on such legal areas as commercial and securities litigation in addition to defending clients accused of white-collar crimes. From 1986 to 1988, she worked as an Associate in the Litigation Department of Dewey, Ballantine, Busby, Palmer and Wood. Davidson received admittance to practice before the Second and Third Federal Circuit Courts, the Southern District Court of New York, and the State and Federal District Courts of New Jersey.
Rachel Davidson earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles, from which she graduated magna cum laude. Continuing her education, she received her Juris Doctor from the Columbia University School of Law, which also recognized her as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
In addition to her role as a judge, Davidson serves as a member of the Frisch School’s Board of Directors, sits on the Chairman's Council of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and actively participates in the Century Association.
