Rachelle Stephenson
Teacher in Langley, British Columbia
I've been a teacher in Langley, BC for the past four years with experience in grades 3-5. My favourite subjects to teach are math and PE. Most students at my school know me best as the Cross Country Coach or the teacher who runs KM Club with her students (even though some still talk about the Taylor Swift party I threw in my portable last year with over 70 students in attendance…). Outside of teaching, I am a fan of travel, hiking, baking, and running. I currently spend most of my time training for my next race (BMO marathon) and recently have begun learning to knit!
I have recently started my journey back as a student through Queens, exploring ways to strengthen myself as a leader. More formal leadership roles have always been at the back of my mind but I was always in the mindset that I should wet my feet and get more experience in the classroom first. However, my administrator encouraged me to take the leap and try something new. So here I am! I am someone who likes to take the lead and can find myself often taking on more informal roles throughout my practice. My hope is that this course will continue to strengthen my skills as a leader and develop my ability to use data as evidence to guide my decision-making.
I bring an organized and honest approach that is connected through classroom-based data from my experiences in varying contexts of intermediate elementary (having taught in a montessori school, a demonstration school, public & independent, small inner city school, and one of the largest elementary schools in my district).
