Rachel Smith
Rachel grew up in Southern Ontario and has a huge passion for disadvantaged and at-risk children, youth and families. She has held many positions working, as well as volunteering, with children and youth in her community. Some of these positions include a lifeguard, swim instructor and Aquatic Coordinator, camp counsellor, and nanny. Rachel is in her last year at the University of Guelph, working towards a Bachelor of Applied Science with a major in Child, Youth and Family Studies. During her studies Rachel had the opportunity to obtain placement positions at St. Ignatius Catholic school (tutoring and running a Grade 1 boys recess group), and the girl’s residence at Wyndham House (a long term residence for homeless teens aged 16-21 years of age). Rachel Smith was appointed to the IProjects Board of Directors in August of 2010 and has served as the Secretary since that time. In her past time, Rachel serves at the soup kitchen in downtown Guelph called Cafe Agape as well as at her local church with Sunday school, and as a leader in the Celebrate Recovery program. She looks forward to travelling back to Peru for a second time to stay at Lakeside Girl’s Refuge for 4 months this summer.
