Rachel Reuben is a leader and consultant in the field of marketing and communications in the higher education industry. She has spent the last twenty years in progressively responsible positions, in both public and private institutions, and is now leveraging that experience with her clients.
Most recently Rachel was the vice president of communications at Colgate University. As a direct report to former President Jeffrey Herbst and a member of his senior staff, she advised and provided strategic communication counsel to him, the senior leadership team, trustees and colleagues university-wide. She oversaw all aspects of communications and messaging to build awareness of the university, the excellence of its faculty, and its strong academic programs. She led the effort to develop a crisis communication and issues management program, including extensive standard operating procedures documentation.
Prior to Colgate, Rachel was the associate vice president for marketing communications at Ithaca College. Under her leadership the college charged forward with a new college-wide brand identity and strategy, as well as a brand awareness advertising campaign to tell the world how Ithaca College makes students ready.
On their quest for a heightened brand, Rachel co-authored Ithaca College’s first institutional strategic marketing plan, instituted integrated marketing tactics, and created a trademark and licensing program. She reorganized the Office of Marketing Communications into a more effective team that provides the broader college community with unprecedented levels of support and strategic advisement. The areas she was responsible for included advancement communications, athletic communications, client marketing services, editorial services, media relations, creative services, and recruitment marketing.
A prolific and frequently invited speaker, Rachel has presented at the American Marketing Association’s Symposium for the Marketing of Higher Education, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) conferences, Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), eduWeb, HighEdWeb, University and College Designers Association (UCDA), AACSB, Stamats, State University of New York Council for University Affairs and Development (SUNY CUAD), and more. Her writings and expertise have been featured in The Chronicle of Higher Education, University Business, CASE Currents, Campus Technology, and many blogs.
