Radhanath Swami - My Spiritual Master
While wandering through the lanes and by-lanes of life, while avoiding the ditches and absorbing the bumps, I was looking for someone to help me and guide me. Many offered help but I wasn’t sure of them. From a distance I saw a smiling face. Looking queer yet appealing, i could make out a clean shaven head and beautiful markings on the face signifying his devotion to God. I understood later that I had met a Hare Krishna devotee. His name is Madan Gopal Das – a resident monk in the Sri Sri RadhaGopinath Temple of ISKCON Chowpatty, Mumbai, India.
I started talking to him and learnt a lot about life. He had many things to offer to me. I benefited a lot. Sometime there would be instant inspiration and sometimes some thought to reflect upon at posterity. Yet, the best thing that he offered me was a mention about my would-to-be spiritual master, His Holiness Radhanath Swami.
“The Journey Home” by Radhanath Swami:
The thrilling recounts of Radhanath Swami‘s many encounters with a myriad of personalities across the globe reminded me of a kaleidoscope. Every pattern although composed of a small number of characters is reminisced so animatedly that it is unforgettable. As you finish absorbing one such encounter Radhanath Swami takes you along with another one. You pass through so many situations–yet, every encounter makes an indelible impression on the mind.
I was particularly amazed at the indomitable will of RADHANATH SWAMI as he wandered from one teacher to another teacher–some downright thugs, some genuine practitioners while some were just eager to capitalize on the concept of having a western disciple. Notwithstanding all this, he goes on in search of his true calling. To me, this chastity to his original purpose of life–for which he set out of his home really pulls me to him. Very rare quality in today’s times.
New year resolutions are not new to me. I make them every year. I am just so weak. I have been gaining strength from Radhanath Swami. He is my teacher for being fixed up on one’s goal. Radhanath Swami makes the journey as interesting as is the goal he seeks.
