Raechel Canipe
I am a University of South Florida summa cum laude grad with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. I specialize in Developmental Psychology and peer-relations. Since graduating, I have been, researching graduate programs and their admission processes, exploring my interests (rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, painting, upcycling, road trips), catching up on my leisure reading, dusting off my Spanish and French, and working full time to save money for graduate school. Formerly, I acted as lab coordinator of the Social Development Lab at USF and interned for the National Science Foundation through their REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) program. Thus far my research has carried me from two talks at undergraduate colloquiums at my university all the way across the country to present a talk at the AABSS conference in (sorry, I can't resist...) Vivaaaa Las Vegas. My research interests include social skills, social motives, and social behaviors, forms and functions of aggression, bullying, the development of psychopathology, social injustice and inequality, the social aspects of natural disasters, and gender differences.
Considering myself the perpetual "student of life," I am always seeking new skills and deeper, more nuanced understanding of my research interests. I currently use lynda.com to keep my skills polished, sharp, and ever expanding as I hunt for the graduate program that is right for me. At present my training includes Psychological Statistics, Research Methods, Experimental Design and Analyses, Discovering Research in Psychology, the Hurricane Research Experience for Undergraduates, and CITI certifications in Good Clinical Practice, Social and Behavioral Responsible Conduct of Research, and Biomedical Investigators and Key Personnel, and a completed undergraduate honors thesis. I have basic, working knowledge of SPSS, Mplus, and Excel.
