Rafael Alonso Arenas

Rafael Alonso Arenas works as a consultant at the World Bank, where he is responsible for developing content and conducting research on financial inclusion. Prior to joining the Bank, he worked in the Corporate & Public Affairs practice group at Ogilvy Public Relations in Washington, DC.
Rafael studied Liberal Arts at Colorado College majoring in Economics & Business and minoring in Chinese. He graduated receiving the Pizzi Scholarship of Achievement and the Asian Studies Award. As a student, Rafael led the Economics Department Student Advisory Board and was the Chair of the college's organization of international students. He began his studies in Business & Management at age 16 after being selected by the United World Colleges (UWC) to represent Mexico in Singapore.
In 2014 Rafael acquired part of the company Mezcal Local, the first impact mezcal in Mexico. He is a regular contributor to Siglo MéXXico Urbanismo and has written articles for IQLatino.org. He is passionate and curious about impact investing, social entrepreneurship and behavioral economics. In his spare time Rafael enjoys playing squash and guitar.
