Rafael Ramirez

I am currently Associate Professor in Computer Science at the Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, Spain. I obtained my BSc in Mathematics form the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and my MSc in Artificial Intelligence and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Bristol, UK. For five years, I was a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the School of Computing of the National University of Singapore. My research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Mining and their application to cognition, creative processes, Brain-computer Interfaces, and Business Intelligence.

I studied classical guitar and violin at the National School of Music, Mexico. Since then, I have performed with a number of bands in four continents. I have recorded with internationally-renowned musicians and worked with vocalist Astrid Hadad in Mexico, USA, Great Britain, Spain, Belgium and Australia. I was Violinist, Guitarist and Vocalist of Bristol-based Latin Band Tierra Colorada and Musical Director, Violinist and vocalist of Singapore-based Latin Jazz band Combinacion Perfecta.

I was Latin dance instructor for more than 10 years teaching in dance schools in England, Singapore and Spain. I was the Founder and Director of SalsaMania Dance Company. For 5 years, Salsamania performed in Televison shows and international events in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
