Rafael Gomes de Oliveira

São Paulo, Sp - Brasil

I hail originally from the "Terra das Cataratas," Foz do Iguaçu, but now reside in my favorite city in the galaxy, São Paulo.

Early in my life, the game of tennis played a huge role shaping who I would later become, but not as big as the role my parents, teachers, and friends played. I ended up going to play college tennis and study civil engineering in Texas when I turned 18.

After completing my degree, I went to Chicago to work with Thornton Tomasetti, my dream job since I am very interested in skyscrapers, mega structures, and the built environment as a whole.

Then I further developed a model for group creativity, wrote a movie script about tennis, started a city performance indicator NGO, volunteered on several built environment professional organizations, and continued my work as an engineering consultant at Thornton Tomasetti in Brazil.

Current plans involve pursuing a masters degree in architecture and urban informatics, and keep evolving my research on the design and analysis of complex systems, which include built environment systems such as buildings and cities.
