Rafelrey Campoamor

Rafel Campoamor obtained the Certificate in AfroLatinAmerican studies from Harvard University in 2020 and then volunteered in Brazil and Malawi during the COVID pandemia. He studied engineering in Cuba, economics in Moscow, and information technology (IT) in Paris. He worked for 20 years directing IT projects for Capgemini, Steria, Soleri-Cigel, General Dynamics Information Technology and other IT service companies in Europe and USA. He currently is in a spiritual retreat in Southern Africa and is preparing to serve in Peace Corps Mongolia from the Spring 2024 to the Fall 2026.

Campoamor is Founder and President of the non-profit EmpoderaCuba, whose mission is to close the digital divide and empower citizens through technology. He organized the freedom-through-technology festival in Havana entitled “Festival Click” and more recently “tecnoVIDA”, the only independent event in Cuba training citizens to use computers and create effective, high- impact messaging through mass communication and social media for social change towards human rights and freedom.

Campoamor is organizing the Cuban Chapter of Internet Society, which seeks to become a channel for bridging digital divide by developing activities aimed at increasing the so called “digital inclusion” in our target population. With support from ISOC International and young Cuban civil society organizations, the Chapter will further develop citizen empowerment through information and communication technologies and promote multi-stakeholder governance of internet in Cuba.

As activist for civil rights, Campoamor (@cimarron61) is a member of the Citizens’ Committee for Racial Integration[CIR], SOS Racism in France and the NAACP in USA. He is also a longstanding member of the Latin American Studies Association [LASA] and has presented several papers about the racial divide in Cuba at its annual International Congress.
