Rafi Yahalom
Dr Raphael (Rafi) Yahalomis a Research Affiliate at MIT - Sloan School of Management.
He is focusing onemerging solutions that will reshape the future of cyber-security, and on newevidence-based predictive methods for analyzing and prioritizing cyber-securityrisks, and for measuring cyber-security progress and business-value.
Rafi is a highly-accomplishedresearcher, entrepreneur, and consultant.
He co-founded and was aleader at Onaro – an innovative company focused on enterprise data-infrastructuremanagement software, that raised $10 Million in VC funding and was acquired byNetapp (Nasdaq: NTAP) for $125 Million. Onaro’s software solutions (SANscreen / OnCommand Insight) are currentlyused successfully in hundreds of leading companies worldwide, and in 2014 theannual revenue from Onaro’s products was over $100 Million.
Rafi was a faculty memberat the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an invited visiting researcher atmultiple institutions including AT&T Bell Labs, Cambridge University NewtonInstitute, Cornell University, The European Institute of Systems Security, andSiemens Research Labs.
Rafi’s multiple researchpublications and patents span areas of information security and datamanagement. He served on program committees of leading security researchconferences such as ACM Computer and Communication Security and IEEE Securityand Privacy, and is an invited member of the IFIP working group on TheoreticalFoundations of Security Analysis and Design.
He developed the widely-analyzedearly Authentication and Cryptographic-Key-Distribution protocol known as “TheYahalom Protocol “, and co-developed (with Roger Needham and Li Gong) the “GNYLogic” for end-to-end analysis of secure protocols.
Rafi also consultsextensively to leading organizations worldwide, and among others has workedclosely with Citigroup to apply formal methods and analyze the end-to-endsecurity of their global Funds-Transfer processes and provide strategicrecommendations.
Rafi obtained his PhD inComputer Science from Cambridge University, and his BSc in ElectricalEngineering/Computer Engineering from the Technion - Israel Institute ofTechnology.
He served in the IsraeliNavy and in the Israeli Air-Force.
He was a player in theIsraeli semi-professional premier Basketball league, in the CambridgeUniversity Varsity Basketball team (awarded a Cambridge Blue), and was selectedto the British Universities All-Star Basketball team.
