Ralph Opacic

Ralph Opacic is an award-winning arts education leader whose career has been dedicated to helping people discover their creative potential. In 1987, he founded the Orange County School of the Arts and guided its development into one of the nation’s leading charter schools for talented young artists. Through leadership, he built programs that combined rigorous academics with high-level training in music, dance, theatre, and the visual arts.

Today, Opacic continues expanding access to creative education through his leadership of Orange County Music & Dance. His work focuses on building lifelong pathways into the arts, with programs serving learners from early childhood through adulthood. He believes meaningful arts institutions should welcome communities and ensure financial circumstances never prevent a student from participating.

Opacic earned a bachelor’s degree in music from California State University, Long Beach, a master’s degree in educational administration from National University, and a doctorate in education from the University of Southern California. His many honors include the Jeffrey Lawrence Award, the Cultural Legacy Award for Artistic Vision, and recognition for excellence in entrepreneurship. Guided by passion, dedication, perseverance, and vision, Opacic measures success by the lasting impact his work creates for students, families, educators, artists, and communities across generations.
