Ramon Velez

I am an IT Specialist currently living in Cypress, California. My interests range from technology to cycling. I am also interested in travel, fitness, and dogs.

My early years were spent in Richmond VA where I was introduced to the hospitality industry at an early age. I quickly understood the benefits of customer service by being exposed to a local family owned restaurant.

My professional career started with Marriott International where as a young 20 year old, I focused on becoming a restaurant manager. I took part in Marriott’s version of Marriott University where I spent 3 years in a learn and work program ultimately achieving my goal and being transferred around the US. I worked in Palm Desert CA, World Trade Center Marriott in NY, NY, Fashion Island Marriott in Newport Beach, CA and finally at the Anaheim Marriott aka the Disneyland Marriott in Anaheim CA. It was while working in Anaheim that I begin my career change into the IT field. I was tasked with administering the MICROS POS system which peaked my curiosity about how it all worked and communicated.

From a restaurant manager to an IT Consultant!

Some friends of a friend started an IT consultant company called Prosum. I was asked to join Prosum as an intern while studying for certifications in Novell Netware and Microsoft operating systems. As an IT consultant for 10 years, I was exposed to various industries that included the Medical Field, Manufacturing, Government, Transportation and Maritime Shipping Logistics.

I credit my customer service skills for the high level of success I’ve enjoyed over the course of my career. I would like to lead and teach what I know to the next generation of IT professionals by way of team, project and department management.
