Johanna Ramos

Tampa, Florida

Johanna Ramos is an independent journalist and former reporter for El Nuevo Dia, which was the only Spanish Daily in Central Florida and remains one of the main news sources in Puerto Rico. There, Johanna translated, researched, investigated, wrote and fact-checked stories ranging from politics and crime to human-interest pieces, including the 2008 presidential election. Her outgoing and compassionate personality led to building relationships with hundreds of contacts who trusted their stories to her. Johanna currently has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida in Communications with minors in Behavioral Science and English Writing. She will soon have her Master’s in New Media Journalism from Full Sail University. Johanna’s goal is to inform people of what goes on in the world around them, especially when it comes to federal law and how it affects people locally, such as the way immigrant workers are affected by American politics.

Currently, as a flight attendant, she is able to combine her passions and talks to hundreds of people on any given day who share part of their lives with her. She has also contributed to the company’s Inflight Newsletter which reaches over 13,500 employees nationwide. Johanna has found that real life anecdotes fascinate her. From the lady who woks at the local nail salon and has survived multiple wars, to the neighbor next door who escaped oppression in his country, there are stories everywhere. Johanna has great understanding of federal and local politics and how it relates to people’s lives and wants to bring these stories to light in order to create an atmosphere of open dialogue. She hopes this will lead to acceptance of different cultures, ideas and stories in this country.
