Melchert OD earned his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1978 from the Illinois College of Optometry after attending the University of Wisconsin campuses in Madison, Oshkosh, and Fox Valley. While at ICO, he served as Class Treasurer and received the Eugene W. Strawn Award for Leadership and Service, demonstrating his early commitment to both academic and community excellence.
