Rande is a part-time blogger,tweeter, author and “journalist” who, during the day works for the NorthCarolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) as a Technology SupportSpecialist Advanced. He is currentlyresponsible for the training, support and implementation of the NCDOT"sCADD and engineering applications for the western half of North Carolina. Randehas over 29 years of experience in Information Technology, Construction, Bridgeand Roadway Engineering with two state departments of transportation.

In addition to his background in AEC/CivilEngineering software, Rande has been involved with internet technologies sincethe late 90’s and was the original webmaster of the West Virginia Department ofTransportation. His main area of interest is applying technology to improve engineering workflows and processes in the design of highways and bridges.

Additionally Rande has taught MicroStation, AutoCAD and engineering drafting at several community colleges.

Rande has made many presentationsover the past 25+ years in the United States, Canada and Eastern Europe on thesubject of applying Information technology in civil and highway engineering. From1997-2001 he wrote a regular column forPC Trans Magazine (which is now a website) call Rande’s Rantings & Ravings. He also co-authored UnderstandingMicroStation V8 XM in 2D: A Basic Guide for XM and V8i Users.

Rande has a B.S. in CivilEngineering from West Virginia Institute of Technology
