Digital Etiquette

Digital Etiquette is a very important thing that must be followed by all technology users. Basically, it is a set of rules that must be followed by everyone, in order to make the internet better, not just for you, but for everyone. People need to treat everyone with respect and politely, not just in real life, but also online. While talking to others online, we need to make sure we are very careful in order not to hurt anyone's feelings. While sending formal emails to teachers or bosses, you may not use acronyms like BRB, TTYL, LOL, or any others. Using bad language, plagiarizing, cyberbullying, hacking accounts, posting bad things, and downloading illegal music, are all examples of things that must be stopped in order to make sure that everyone has Digital Etiquette. Digital Etiquette impacts me greatly because I make sure that I am very polite online. When I am emailing teachers, I make sure to have a heading in the beginning, like Dear Mr.. or Hi Mrs.. I always read the email after I am done to make sure that I don't have any grammar or spelling mistakes, because I would look very informal. I use acronyms while chatting, but not while sending formal emails. When I am posting anything, I make sure that it is polite so no one gets offended. Also while chatting, I always say bye at the end because it would be very rude to just leave without letting the other person know. Hacking is a major problem and so I would never do such a thing because there really is no point of it and it is really offensive. Something else is capital letters. I used to write all capital letters a lot, but I found out that it is very disrespectful and so I stopped. Also, I never plagiarize and when I get information from the internet and use it as my own, I cite my resources, by using MLA format. In order to be a good digital citizen, you must use appropriate language while talking to people. You may not plagiarize, download free music, hack accounts, cyberbully, or post bad things, if you want to be a good digital citizen. You must ask permission if you want to post other people's things. Do not write in all caps, because it is rude and it sounds as if you are yelling. You have to make sure to send proper emails to bosses and teachers. Make sure to be polite and not use bad language because it can be very rude and offensive. If your computer is virus-free, you will not have a problem of sending viruses to people. Always remember, treat others the way you want to be treated!
