Srinidhi Sundar

Srinidhi Sundar found interest in dance at the age of four and was introduced to Bharatanatyam by her mother at the renowned Tanjai Arunachalam Pillai School, under Smt Jayalakshmi Arunachalam. At 8, she had the privilege to begin her tutelage under the legendary guru, ‘Natyacharya’, ‘ Kalaimamani’ Smt K J Sarasaat Sarasalaya School of Bharatanatyam. She had her Arangetram (debut performance) when she was still very young, upon the motivation of her guru. Srinidhi began her career as a Bharatanatyam performer from the age of 11 and has given a variety of solo and group performances in India. She is a graded artiste in Doordharshan, Chennai, since 2009.

Srinidhi had the privilege to learn Nattuvangam directly from her guru, Smt K J Sarasa, who was the first woman Nattuvanar in India. She has conducted many performances of Sarasalaya as a Nattuvanar. Srinidhi is also trained in Carnatic Vocal. Her guru was Vidwan Sri Karukuruchi A Balaji. She had the opportunity to be part of ‘Flame of the Forest’, a Justus Repertoire theatre production, directed by Smt Gowri Ramnarayan, along with Smt Priyadharshini Govind and Ms. Mythili Prakash. She has also been part of the plays ‘The Fire and the Rain by Girish Karnad’ and Siri Sampige by Chandrasekara Kambara, directed by V Balakrishnan and produced by Theatre Nisha.

Srinidhi is an Assistant Professor in the department of Public Relations, Stella Maris College. Her career as an academician has not stopped her from pursuing her passion in the art form. She completed her Diploma in Bharatanatyam from Bharatidasan University, Tiruchirapalli. She is currently pursuing her PhD in the department of Anthropology, University of Madras.

Dance School:

The experience of having taught and assisted her Guru at Sarasalaya for many years, gave Srinidhi the base for the founding of her dance school. Srinidhi Sundar is the founder-director of Rasadhwani School of Bharatanatyam which was established in the year 2013 and runs her classes at T.Nagar, Chennai
