Raised in Worthington, Ohio, Rashay Layman attended Thomas Worthington High School, where she developed a passion for leadership and advocacy. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Business from Muskingum College. After taking time off to raise her two children, she returned to complete her MBA.

Rashay started her career with advocacy roles at Working America and the Sierra Club, focusing on environmental and energy campaigns. This led to her work in the energy sector, managing large utility projects. She later founded Sown Strategies, a consulting firm specializing in public relations and stakeholder engagement, with a focus on renewable energy.

Currently, she serves as Senior Public Relations Manager at ESA, where she leads community engagement efforts for renewable energy initiatives.

Rashay is actively involved in her community, serving as a Girl Scout troop leader and as a former board member of CHOICE, a nonprofit promoting homebirth options.

A devoted mother of two, Rashay enjoys hiking, cooking, and ceramics. She is committed to mentoring women in public relations and renewable energy, helping shape the next generation of professionals.
