Rebecca Smith
Dallas Ft. Worth
I am a 50-something parent of one daughter and one step-daughter. I am married to my best friend and soul mate, and we have four wonderful granddaughters, three of whom live in the same small Texas community that we do.
Most folks would say I have a career, but when I was growing up the idea of a Career was very glamourous, and what I do really doesn't feel like that. So I say I have a job, for which I am very thankful. My position has morphed over the years and I am now considered the Controller and Systems Analyst, or System Manager, for the distribution division of a major publisher of free advertising periodicals.
It wasn’t until the girls came along, starting back in 2002, that I felt like I had found what God’s plan was for me. Being a grandmother (affectionately known as Granny to most everyone who knows me) is a little piece of heaven on earth to me. Someone once told me that I couldn’t live my life for my children. I still am not sure what to say to that, but I can say that it really isn’t a matter of living my life for them (I live my life for God) but that they add so much joy to life I can’t imagine not being Granny Smith!
