My name Ratana, I was born in 1993. I was raised in Krolanh District, a rural community 55 KM away from Siem Reap city and comes from a family of 3 children.
My childhood was very difficult, not unlike other Khmer childhoods. I spent the days helping my parents on our small rice field, tending to the animals.
I grew up during a particularly difficult time in Cambodia. It was not long after the collapse of the Khmer Rouge, so at a time when Cambodians were trying to combat the toll the Pol Pot regime had taken on their country, trying to rebuild a nation that had been devastated by war and genocide.
