In The ancient nineties, Nintendo has been the undisputed king of the video game market. SEGA had attempted to compete with the NES and the SNES house consoles using their Master System and Mega Drive, and while the latter did a good deal better than the prior, Nintendo was nevertheless firmly in first place once all of the earnings were counted. Since the SNES and Mega Drive creation was twisting up, SEGA began toying with the notion of using CDs rather than cartridges, even going so far as to launch the SEGA CD add-on to the Mega Drive.

Sony spent money and time learning about the gambling business and constructing their own prototypes but discussions between both Japanese firms broke down.
