Raul Chereches

Hello,

I'm Raul, currently an FVPT student at the University of Surrey. The areas of filmmaking I'm most interested in are directing, cinematography and screenwriting (usually in that order). For the past few years, I've been honing these skills by working on various short pieces -mostly narrative films- some of which you can enjoy by having a look at my portfolio.

As a cinephile, the aspects I mostly cherish in a film are: strong characterisation, emotional depth, convincing dialogue and a distinctive visual style. The list of filmmakers I admire includes Yorgos Lanthimos, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Marcell Jankovics and Noah Baumbach. During my placement year, I got the opportunity to explore video journalism by working as a camera operator for Recorder, an independent media outlet based in Bucharest, Romania. I also gathered valuable knowledge of lighting while working as a grip for onedash22, a production company from Singapore.

My other interests include photography (for which my Instagram account linked below acts as a portfolio of sorts), philosophy and martial arts.
