Ray Eskritt

I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Winnipeg in 2009. Currently, I am enrolled in the University of Winnipeg's Public Relations progam, and set to graduate in August of 2012.

I have worked with youth in care and youth at risk for eight years. It has taught me to value the words of those that often go unheard, and to see the world from many angles. It has trained me to see that the same message must be recreated for each audience, in different vocabularies and often times, with different reasoning, in order for one to make it understood by everyone. It has taught me that teaching goes beyond preaching and must be shown through actions. Working in youth care has instilled within me values of safety, confidentiality, trust, and non-judgment.

I have spent two years at CKUW 95.9fm working with the Say It Sista collective and producing a weekly feminist hour on our community radio waves. Political leadership, community building, human rights and capitalist behaviour were all topics that were covered within the collective. It allowed me the privilege of speaking at Take Back the Night in 2009 and 2010, meeting political candidates for discussion, speaking with performers and writers, with all their artistic insights, about media and its effects on our wider culture.

I have been producing orginal art works for over a decade. I love public speaking and the rush of performing in front of an audience. I greatly enjoy debate and I am passionate speaker.I have done Anti-Bully training for Camp Massad, as well as LGBT* awareness for the Youth Resource Shelter with Macdonald Youth Services.

I am entering the field of Public Relations with the goal of working as an
advocate for those working in NGOs, Labour relations, and women’s rights. I believe in the political left wing, and have watched their messages flounder for the majority of my life. It seems that public needs have been pushed aside in this nation for corporate interests, and I want to work against this trend. I believe in working for the public good, and I wish to use marketing and public relations skills to transmit a positive message of change for Canada and the world.

My long term goals are to work with Labour Unions, NGOs, or Women’s Rights groups. I wish to continue my work in assisting those on the fringes of society, but to transfer from direct contact to larger scale awareness and consciousness raising. I want to
