Ray Land
As a 36-year member of the Fraternal Order of Police, an organization that represents the interests of American law enforcement officers, Ray Land worked with the Ocean City Police Department as a Boardwalk Supervisor and as a Mounted Policeman. During his days as a Boardwalk Supervisor, Ray Land kept supervised the area and managed patrol shifts. He also heroically apprehended an alleged kidnapper. Ray Land received his B.A. in Criminology at Western Maryland College (now called McDaniel College) and underwent additional training as an officer.
In 2007, Ray Land enrolled in the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy, a training academy that focuses on in-service, supervisor/administrator, and technical courses. Ray Land also registered for the First Line Supervisors Training School, a program that he completed in one month. Additionally, while Ray Land operated as a Mounted Policeman in Ocean City, he contributed to more than 2,000 arrests. Five hundred of those arrests were personally carried out, and he was involved in about 20 felony arrests while serving on the mounted unit.
In 2002, Ray Land caught two criminals only three hours after they committed a robbery, a feat that he marks as the highlight of his career. Ray Land worked as a member of the community service division for his Ocean City branch for five years, and he holds membership in the National Police Athletic League.
His personal activities include horseback riding, softball, football, and basketball. Ray Land’s contributions to the Ocean City, Maryland, community served to make the town more secure and safe for many years.
