I've been a public safety professional for 50 years now. The first 30 years with the Baltimore City Fire Department holding every rank up to Assistant Chief. Then 10 years in the private sector supporting first responder technology and then 5 years as the State of Maryland Interoperability Director and finally as a consultant working in support of the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network know as FirstNet. I have been blessed with an amazing career in which I've had remarkable experiences and met some wonderful folks along the way. October 14th was my 50 year anniversary of joining the Baltimore City Fire Department. Since we are currently in "lock-down" due to the pandemic, I decided to write down some of my experiences and fondest memories from my 50 year career in public safety. Thanknfully, my wife Karen is an amazing note taker and writer so she has captured my reminices into a book which I originally intended for my 6 grandchildren. They didn't come into my life until after I had retired from the fire service so this was my way of passing along my passion for public service to them; without making them sit and listen to me talk for days.
