Ralph B. Davis

Prestonsburg, Ky.

Ralph B. Davis is an Appalachian journalist with more than 22 years experience in Eastern Kentucky. After directing newspaper newsrooms in McKee, Paintsville, Hazard and his hometown of Prestonsburg for 22 years, he made the switch to television journalism in 2015. He currently works as news director for EKB-TV, in Pikeville.

Davis graduated from Kentucky State University with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the school’s Whitney Young College of Leadership Studies in 1992, as well as a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1994. He is currently completing a master’s degree in new media journalism from Full Sail University.

Davis’ accomplishments include numerous awards from the Kentucky Press Association for news, feature, editorial and column writing, as well as newspaper and website design. In 2012, The Floyd County Times was selected as the best overall weekly in the Heartland Publications newspaper group. In 2013, Davis was one of 16 journalists selected for National Press Association fellowships to attend the group’s Obesity Issues Program in Denver, Colo.

Davis embraces technological progress in his work, converting each newsroom he has led to full computer pagination and digital photography. He also designed the first websites for The Paintsville Herald and The Floyd County Times, receiving a second-place award from the National Newspaper Association for best weekly newspaper website in 1997. In 2015, Davis helped guide the launch of a new nightly newscast, the EKB Evening News at 6.
