Rich Buttiglieri

I’ve been in technology companies for well over 20 years both large (Digital, IBM/Lotus, HP, Honeywell) and small (BBN, Concord Communications, Marketsoft) as a developer, designer, usability/ux researcher, manager.

Prior to Pearson I was a Sr consultant & interim director at Bentley University’s Design and Usability Center – an agency doing ux research for corporate clients while mentoring HFID grad students. I’ve worked on everything from large, complex desktop applications (one used by tens of millions), to “brochure-ware” websites like VW, Harley Davidson, Southern Comfort, Orbitz, and Royal Caribbean. I’ve worked on web applications for banking, a major credit card company, sales force software, org chart software, online gaming, and even an LMS and worked on consumer electronics by the likes of Nokia, Kodak, and Bose (ask me about the “Ferrari project”) as well as medical products for consumers and medical products for medical professionals (FDA is so much fun to deal with!).

Because of my breadth of domain and product experience, I’ve been fortunate to be a judge of many prestigious product design competitions like IDSA’s Innovations Award at CES (judge for 6 years, speaker at CES several times), HFES’ User Centered Product Design Award (5+ yrs), Appliance Design, and Mobile Internet World design competitions. I am also a repeat presenter at CES and was the keynote speaker in 2009. I am a gadget guy at heart!
