Rocky "Yung Roc" Byrd
"Rocky" Byrd is a musician/producer/Radio talent from St.Louis Mo. Born May 3,1985He is the son of 60's Soul/R&B singer Eddie Byrd. He started his musical training at the early age of 6 with piano. After seeing his talents progress his parents pushed him to move on to other instruments,including Guitar which he started at 9 years old and then picking up Drums at the age of 12. His musical talents earned him a spot playing drums for jazz band in middle school. Putting his newly aquired guitar skills to work he formed a band with his childhood friend Joshua Rothman. Sadly he missed his oppertunity at stardom after quiting the band in 2001 which was signed to Dreamworks in the summer of 2002 under the name "Living Things". It was also during his highschool years, that he started to become interested in production, which after doing research on his favorite producer Pharrell Williams sighted him to by his first synthesizer workstation. He soon became immersed in the sound. The genius that flowed from his fingertips landed him production credits with some of St.Louis's top local artist like CoCo Cevere, and Nikko Smith. The determination that ensued put his music on the airwaves of Atlanta, Kansas City,St.Louis and other various Internet radio stations. After graduating highschool in 2003, he attended Missouri Western State University studying Music Performance & Education and Computer Music Engineering. While at MWSU he studied Classical guitar under world famous classical guitarist Anthony Glise and Percussion under Mark Johnson. Shortly after he returned to his native home of St.Louis to continue persuing his calling, He became a studio musician for local St.Louis performers and studio engineers playing Keys and Guitars. In early 2005 he was called by a fellow highschool keyboardist Named Dre' Hilton and asked to play guitar for his group the" Dre' Hilton project" which was a Gospel/R&B group. This oppertunity opened many doors for the group including playing gigs at BB's,The City Museum, and Six Flags opening for Kirk Franklin. Feeling as though there might be something else he wanted to try, he perused a degree from Lindenwood University in Mass Communications and Broadcast Media. He ran to the airwaves of 100.3 the beat and Z 107.7 voicing commericials and late nights from 6-Midnight on Saturday.
