Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
I'm a first grade teacher, a wife, as well as a mother to two precious kids, ages 5 and 3.
Hello and welcome! My name is Regina Carranto. I was born in Manila, Philippines. I moved to Las Vegas with my family when I was 10 years old. I attended Robert. E Lake E.S., Kit Carson M.S, William E. Orr M.S., Gibson M.S., Western H.S., and Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at UNLV. Teaching is my passion! I am a life-long learner. I’ve taught Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, and 5th grade students, but I fell in love with 1st grade. I find great joy in teaching children to read. I have been teaching at Gene Ward E.S. since 2005. It has been my great pleasure to teach 1st grade at Gene Ward E.S. and I have enjoyed working with this close knit family community. I feel very blessed to work with young children and I truly enjoy seeing them develop into students. It’s exciting to see children grow in academic and social skills. My hobbies include church activities, singing, and playing the piano with my family.
As a CCSD teacher, I believe it is imperative to serve as an example to my students and to become a lifelong learner—always learning. In my classroom, I face many challenges every day. I must adapt to a generation of students who have grown up using the Internet. As an educator, I choose to strive to instill in my students a desire to learn more and a motivation to do their best. I need to act as a role model for my students. I want to share with my students when I learn something new and share what I do in order to continue learning for life. According to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), students must master vital 21st century skills so they will be college and career ready. Technology is one powerful tool that I want to utilize to assist my students in the learning process. The CCSS uses technology to enhance reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language use. Technology media literacy skills and technical skills are integrated throughout the CCSS. I have taken RPDP courses to support progress and these courses have expanded my knowledge. So far, I have learned to use some of the Web 2.0 tools to support these standards, such as Edmodo, Edublogs, Google Docs, Google Maps, VoiceThread, Gmail, Class Dojo, Glogster EDU, dropbox, and Voki.
I am currently working on my M.Ed. concentrating in Technology Integration at UNLV. I’m hoping to lea
