As The River Bends
I've always enjoyed writing. If I had to decribe my writing I would describe it as a traveling river. Sitting down with a pencil and paper, allowing the words that are constantly jumbled around my head to flow out and bring me to my final destination. But the words don't always come in a steady stream. Unlike the ideas that are already there, flowing together naturally; sometimes I get stuck, emptied of ideas as if a dam were in my way. With that said, I tend to procrasinate a little too much (i.e. this writing assignment.. yeah, done a lot later than my mom would've approved of..) I find that I work better under pressure. Just like how water builds and builds until the dam bursts, allowing a rapid gush of words and ideas to splash across the page. I also go back and revise, revise, revise. As I create a peice of writing I look back constantly, re-reading different parts, tweaking things here and there. At the bottom of a river there are stones, and when they first rest at the bottom they are jagged and rough. But through the course of time the water rushes over those rocks evening out their jagged ridges, filing them down, smoothing them over until they are perfect. Writing is the same way. How a peice of writing starts is so diffrent from the final product it becomes. What I'm trying to say is this: writing flows and changes. Sometimes it flows rapidly while other times it is nothing but a light trickle, slowly making progress. In the end it becomes this giant, glorious ocean where people spend time to enjoy. background image by: Moyan Brenn
