Steve Hankins, 47, lives in Iowa Park, Texas. He is an A&P; licensed Aircraft Mechanic on Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas as a contractor. He has worked on civilian as well as military aircraft over his career. He is also a private pilot, musician, and father. He was born in 1965 to Manuel Floyd and Elsie Lee Hankins in Artesia, NM. The family had a cabin near Cloudcroft, NM in Sixteen Springs Canyon. At the age of three, his oldest brother, Floyd, was killed in a car accident. He has Five other older brothers, David, Tom, Tim, and Sam, respectively. In 1969, they moved to Denver Colorado, and Steve attended Carson Elementary, until the family moved to Burkburnett, Texas in 1975. There he attended the Burkburnett schools until graduation from Burk High in 1983. He was first chair trumpet in the varsity band earning numerous awards and recognitions. He then attended two semesters at Midwestern State University. He decided he didn't like college so he left MSU. His first job was with Norriss Bros. Lumber Co. in Burkburnett making wooden pallets for PPG to pack glass in. Deciding lumberyard work was not his favorite choice in occupation, he transferrred his college credits and attended Southwest Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie, Texas for two semesters. In 1985, the college experiment finally was over. He started working for Northrop at Sheppard and has remained through all the contract changes. He has a daughter, Ashleigh, 24, also of Wichita Falls who is attending Midwestern State University. On April 4, 2013, he married Susan Dillard, whom he met in 2005. They now live in Iowa Park. They are blessed with Steve's daughter, Susan's three sons, Ralph, Jake, Johnny and their wives, and her daughter Christine. Susan has five amazing grandchildren, Jayden, Gunnar, Creed and Cross (twins), and Layton. Steve hopes to someday own his own airplane, hangar, and while he is dreaming, his own airfield in the New Mexico mountains around the Cloudcroft, Ruidoso, or Angel Fire areas.
