Rebecca Dewoody

I am a graduate student at Indiana University studying Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology with a minor in Microbiology. My research focus is the host side of pathogenesis and I would really like to continue researching the mechanisms of disease after I graduate in August. I am currently working on a paper that begins to unravel the mechanism of type III secretion system regulation and how this occurs from within the host cell that is infected. In addition, I am working on a review that will cover all the literature in the field discussing TTSS regulation.

Despite being born in Oregon and living in Arizona and Arkansas as a kid, I ended up in Lawrence, KS for undergrad. I got my BS from University of Kansas in Cell Biology in 2005 (go Jayhawks!!) which is the same year I married my wonderful husband, Mark. I spent 2 years working in the pharma industry in Kansas City before moving to the lovely city of Bloomington, IN for graduate school.

I try to keep a balanced life by spending time on hobbies as well as work. My husband and I have a beefed up Jeep that we enjoy off-roading in, snowboarding keeps us busy in the winter and I absolutely love playing roller derby. We have two dogs, a Great Pyrenees and a mutt, that keep us on the trails for exercise.

I am hoping to relocate further west after graduating and am looking for research positions in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. I would love to stay at the bench, so any position in Research and Development would be great. Research focused toward pathogenesis would be perfect!
