I am an author of several books and a retired teacher. I was born and raised in Oregon, USA. My academic credits include an M.S. in Education from Portland State University. I was a high school teacher for students with disabilities for sixteen years.

My interests range from travel to research for my writing projects. I am also interested in volunteering, political and environmental causes, and the arts.

I have always been an avid writer, co-authoring my first book, Child Abuse: A Guide for Professionals, with Dr. Jean Edwards in 1983. (This book has has been revised and is currently available.)

My first maritime history book I published is, Deep Dark and Dangerous: On the Bottom with the Northwest Salvage Divers.

I also have two books out I co-authored with Daniel Cowan, they are titled, Portland's Maritime History, and Canby. These books are in the Arcadia Publication, Images of America series.

Another book I published, Aboard the Portland: A History of the Northwest Steamers, follows the history of steamers along the Columbia River in the northwest of America.

I wrote a non-maritime book on my funny travel and history book about South Korea; it is called, Travels with Kimchi.
