Rebecca Spanbauer

Raleigh, North Carolina, United States

Hi, I'm Rebecca Spanbauer. Nice to meet you.

I am a writer and historian who loves North Carolina and documenting southern culture.

I was born in Charleston, South Carolina and grew up in various cities across both North and South Carolina. In 2001, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art at Davidson College. I started my career in Historic Preservation in Asheville, NC where I worked both as an event planner at the Biltmore Estate and in the trades restoring decorative ceramic tile, concrete and wood features on various buildings in downtown.

In 2006, I received my Master of Arts in American History/Historic Preservation from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. From there, I staffed the Wake County Historic Preservation Commission, and served as the Environmental Review Staff for the State Historic Preservation Office. Since 2008, I have continued my career as a historic preservation consultant for various local and state governments, which has given me the special opportunity of documenting the landscape and architecture of some of North Carolina's most beautiful and unique places.
