Rebecca Woods Maui

Concord, CA

During her tenure as an educator and human services professional serving schools in Maui County, Hawaii, Rebecca Woods helped meet the unique needs of children in vulnerable circumstances. As a Hawaii Department of Education (HDE) substitute teacher for extended assignments at elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the County of Maui, Rebecca Woods taught students who faced diverse challenges, such as psychological and physical impairments and learning deficits. To ensure that these students received fair instruction in all subject areas, she implemented federally guaranteed 504 education plans and individualized education programs. She also formed constructive relationships with students resistant to instruction and fostered their desire to develop improved math and reading comprehension skills.

After five years as a substitute teacher, Rebecca Woods continued to work with the HDE as a Parent Community Network Facilitator for an intermediate school in Makawao, Hawaii. Working closely with parents, faculty, administration, and students, she helped develop positive relations among all members of the school.

A member of the Weinberg Fellows Program and the PONO Leadership Program, Rebecca Woods remains interested in assisting organizations that work with populations facing barriers to success. Besides students at risk, she is interested in aiding military veterans, the elderly and people confronting substance abuse.
