Lynn Jefferys is director at the Battery Company Ltd; suppliers of rechargeable batteries and emergency lighting batteries. The company was started over 20 years ago from Lynn's conservatory of her flat in Leigh on Sea. After working at Power-Sonic Europe for while on the phone bringing in new business, she quickly realised there was a gap in the market for a distributor of their products, so decided to go it alone.
They started very small, herself and one telesales person in an unheated conservatory that was too hot in the summer! They won their 1st few business customers, and carried no stock; everything was delivered direct from Power-Sonic warehouse. They managed to work like this for about 2 years, until they outgrew the glasshouse and moved into their 1st offices, employing 1 more telesales person.
Lynn did not come from any engineering or battery background at all; in fact she used to work in the fashion business as a buyer for many years. She has a degree in fashion design. After working in that business for about 12 years she became disillusioned, and took herself off travelling for 6 months, and upon her return went to work for her father at Power-Sonic Europe for a while.
Over the years Battery Co has expanded and now have their own warehouse which not only stocks the Power-Sonic batteries originally started with, but every other brand and type of battery out there. As soon as the Internet became useable they started their 1st website. In the beginning this did not have online ordering facilities; this came about a year later.
The Battery Co. still keep staff to a minimum, and since Lynn has moved into a large farmhouse in the countryside of Essex, they now work from offices at the side of Lynn's home. This keeps the overheads down, enabling them to offer the best rechargeable batteries at the lowest prices.
